BladeNET’s
Amateur Hockey Knowledge Network Solution offers an integrated one-stop
solution for managing and promoting amateur hockey at a minimal cost to
its users, which is unparalleled in the marketplace. The form and function of the on-line solution effectively
meets the needs and objectives of the Amateur Hockey Community in Canada
as well as:
- Provides
a central registry of all players, coaches, officials, volunteers,
administrators and others;
- Allows
controlled access to all league registrars;
- Provides
an extensive suite of administrative tools to leagues including a
registration and scheduling system;
The
“community site model” heightens the interactive experience for
players, parents, coaches and sponsors and provides new opportunities to
better market and serve them. The
Amateur Hockey Community can leverage the technology as a medium to
facilitate, capture and share knowledge across the Community and the
amateur sports arena.
The
following identifies a suite of applications required to manage the
complete administration of Branches, leagues, clubs, and teams. Providing
a Central Registry by itself does not help the leagues link players to
teams, schedules, scores and standings. The systems are categorized into 3
levels:
- 1st
category identifies the main systems;
- 2nd
category further breaks down the system into sub-systems; and
- 3rd
category identifies the applications within the sub-systems.
BladeNET’s
content management is restricted to presenting data within its own
database. For example, a user
who is both a coach and a referee will see his relevant content as
follows:
-
team
roster;
-
practice
schedule;
-
game
schedule; and
-
referee
schedule.

Export
of registration data to either XML or CSV (comma-separated value)
format; CSV is compatible with Microsoft Excel and all popular
database programs.
League
registrars have full control over registration data. Portions of the data (e.g. name and address) may be
accessible to other users within the league if such access is granted in
their security profiles. Players
and their parents (if their parents are setup in the system) may view all
of their own data but may not view the data of other players.
Team
rosters are presented on the web as a list of players on the team.
Information such as e-mail address and phone number may be
available to authorized users only. Only the league registrar can create
or modify team rosters.
The
interface is application-based; namely, it resides on the league
registrar’s computer. This
is partially for security reasons (due to the sensitive nature of the
information) and partly due to the fact that the registration database
represents a large volume of data that is not practical to manage over a
web interface.

Scores
are presented as part of the schedule.
Standings are available either from the league schedule or the team
schedule. A league scorer has
the authority to modify all results for a league.
Individual games may be assigned scorers (e.g. the referee) who
will have the authority to update that game only. Game results are entered
over the web. League scorers
have the authority to change any score at any time; this feature is
required for dispute resolution. Individual
game scorers may change the scores they have entered for up to a week
after the game.
The
BladeNET Tournament facility is focused on the administrators. Teams
applying for tournament exemptions are flagged in the scheduling system to
ensure they are “booked off” and no league game conflicts occur. Administrators can also set up a separate scheduling
environment for tournaments to allow registering of teams, payment and
scheduling of games. This is identical to the normal Play-off or Play-down
environment at the end of a regular season.
For those
interested in player stats, BladeNET offers the input of game stats on goals,
assists, penalties etc. against the individual game file.
Therefore, if a team wins 3-2, the designated team official has
access to the 3 goals to enter the players who scored goals and those who
got assists. It is self-policing by the team parents.
